Dr. Michael Sudduth
Challenge
With a Doctorate in Philosophy of Religion from Oxford and years of experience teaching and writing, Michael was looking for an effective way to make his work available to colleagues in his field. He thought a Web site would be a great way to communicate. He'd built a personal page on a university server but felt hemmed in by the rigid template structure. However, he didn't know HTML and didn't want to take the time to learn.
Solution
In 1999, Michael discovered Homestead and was immediately attracted to the click-and-point ease of the SiteBuilder, combined with the range of creative possibilities. Starting with a pencil and paper design, he got to work developing a site for his resume, including links to all his writing. As more traffic came through the site, he began to expand it and even develop other sites dedicated to his collection of links and resources. In 2001, he created pages specifically for the students in his courses at St. Michael's College, including syllabi, class notes and resource links.
Success
Now Michael's Web site extends way beyond his original vision. The site has enabled an ongoing conversation about his topics with an international community of professional and student philosophers. It has expanded his reach well beyond the walls of his campus classrooms, allowing him to connect with a vibrant community of emerging philosophers.
