Mrs. Dingman's Third Grade Class
Challenge

Caryn Dingman was looking for creative ways to integrate technology into her curriculum.  She was looking for something beyond setting a computer in the corner and letting the kids play games in their free time.  She also knew that if she was going to make it work for her kids, it had to work for her too.  It had to be a solution that was convenient and easy that she could realistically keep up during the busy school year.
Solution

She was surfing the Internet when she found a colorful and engaging site by another grade school teacher.  Caryn contacted the owner and found out it had been built with Homestead.  Although she had no prior experience building Web pages, she signed up and began playing with the software.  With the help of another teacher, Caryn soon had her own page up with a welcome letter to her students for the fall, her classroom discipline policy and spelling games for her students.  That was just the beginning.
Success

The site has now expanded to be a reflection of her vibrant classroom community.  It serves as a bulletin board where students publish their best writing projects.  The Guest Book Element connects them with other students across the country.  She also uses the site to exchange materials and ideas with her fellow teachers around the state and country.  Caryn relies on affiliate relationships to help fund the site.  The site has been so successful that Caryn now gives Professional Development Seminars on Homestead site building to K-12 teachers in her district.
"Teachers helping teachers is one of the best things about the Internet.  Other teachers are so excited when I show them how easy it is.  I've checked out a lot of other services, but Homestead is above and beyond the rest."
